Definitions of the SI units: The binary prefixes
I started seeing symbols like KiB, GiB and TiB on some websites when talking about file sizes. Those of us who have been in computing since before the dot-com bubble and the unwashed masses know all about KB, GB and TB, but this knocked me for six. Time to unlearn and relearn!
These are truly awful prefixes. Point to note, they are NOT SI units (these are defined here: http://www1.bipm.org/en/si/si_brochure/chapter3/prefixes.html ) - but the SI does point to them if you want to be unambiguous. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to fill my flux capacitor up with jigga-watts.
